چکیده

Mechanical surface modification such as shot peening offer powerful enhancement of fatigue properties metals and other materials. Cavitation usually causes damage in hydraulic machineries. However, careful selection process parameters allowed developing an approach known “cavitation peening.” Its advantage is roughness increase lower than conventional there are no solid collisions involved. As cavitation a hydrodynamic phenomenon, understanding both fluid dynamics materials science required. distinguished from “water jet peening,” which water column impulse used. Another flavor “Submerged laser peening” that involves the use pulsed can be considered type where cavitating bubbles generated due to ablation. Ultrasound vibration, popular method for generating cleaning, has also been adapted peening. The present comparative review presents key insights achievements addresses future directions required advancing technology by considering mechanisms based on reported data jet, laser, ultrasonic methods critically summarized comparison with Strategic view challenges presented.

Laser Peening Process and Its Impact on Materials Properties in Comparison with Shot Peening and Ultrasonic Impact Peening

The laser shock peening (LSP) process using a Q-switched pulsed laser beam for surface modification has been reviewed. The development of the LSP technique and its numerous advantages over the conventional shot peening (SP) such as better surface finish, higher depths of residual stress and uniform distribution of intensity were discussed. Similar comparison with ultrasonic impact peening (UIP)...

Shot peening simulation using discrete and finite element methods

Modeling shot peening process is very complex as it involves the interaction of metallic surfaces with a large number of shots of very small diameter. Conventionally such problems are solved using the finite element software (such as ABAQUS) to predict the stresses and strains. However, the number of shots involved and the number of elements required in a real-life components for a 100% coverag...

Effect of Injection Pressure and Size of Nozzle Throat of a Cavitating Jet on Cavitation Peening

Abstract Cavitation peening is a peening method using impacts at cavitation bubble collapses generated by a cavitating jet. In order to introduce compressive residual stress avoiding damage on the peened surface, residual stress of stainless steel was investigated at various cavitating conditions. It was revealed that the large cavitating jet at low injection pressure such as 30 MPa can introdu...
